ALBA CHAIR CALLS FOR ROBERTSON TO RESIGN

ALBA Party Chair, Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, has called for Cabinet Secretary Angus Robertson to resign following his “secret” meeting with the Deputy Ambassador of Israel.

Ahmed-Sheikh, who is the only Muslim Chair of a UK Political Party, also condemned First Minister, John Swinney, for his “fatuous and frankly insulting” explanation of the meeting. 

Commenting she said:

“One of the few consistent and proclaimed themes of the current SNP has been its support for the suffering people of Gaza and calls for an immediate ceasefire. A virtually united Scotland has called for those accused of war crimes to be brought before the International Criminal Court. 

“This was nullified last week by the extraordinary decision of External Affairs Secretary, Angus Robertson, to entertain the Deputy Israeli Ambassador on a business as usual basis in Scotland while the innocents are dying in Gaza. 

“The clumsy attempt to keep the meeting secret and the fatuous and frankly insulting explanation much later offered by the First Minister has exacerbated the problem.

“It was a decision of such glaring insensitivity and stupidity that it is difficult to accept that any genuine Scottish independence supporter could possibly have made it.

“If Angus Robertson had any integrity he would resign.”
