ALBA condemns "hammer blow" to workers and their families as Chevron closes Aberdeen office

ALBA condemns

Reacting to the announcement that Chevron is to close its Aberdeen office, following its decision to sell its remaining UK North Sea oil and gas assets, as part of a global restructuring, Alba Party National Executive Committee (NEC) member Charlie Abel said:

"While it is unclear how many jobs will be lost, the decision to close the Chevron office after 55 years, by December 2026 and as early as the end of this year, will be a hammer blow to the workers and their families who will be affected."

"The closure of the Global Technology Centre with the loss of jobs in research and development as well as opportunities for young graduates will be keenly felt. It is exactly these types of jobs which Aberdeen cannot afford to lose. This is just the latest example of jobs being lost in the North Sea sector which in no way is compensated for by the small number of jobs being created by GB Energy."

“Where is the action by the UK and Scottish Governments to prioritise and invest in oil and gas in the North Sea? The lack of action by the UK Department for Energy and Net Zero is becoming a sick joke perpetrated against the workers in the North Sea with over 400 jobs set to be lost every fortnight. Enough is enough. It's time for Independence.”
