ALBA Call on SNP to Back Independence Strategy
The ALBA Party have passed a motion stating that “Each and every national election” including the next Scottish Parliament election “should be fought seeking a popular mandate to begin independence negotiations.”
Former SNP MP, Angus Brendan MacNeil proposed the motion and urged his former Party to rally behind this strategy.
Speaking to ALBA members in Edinburgh he said:
“The evidence of the last decade shows that the SNP can not achieve Independence on their own. The SNP need Alba in the next parliament, just as Alba need the SNP.
“On achievement of a majority vote on the list, combining all parties standing on this platform, we will mobilise domestic and international pressure to fulfil the democratic wishes of the Scottish people.
“Independence should not be a lifetime goal, it should be a two to five year goal. It is achievable in that time frame.
“Scotland needs to move on from the austerity of Westminster and the calamity of Brexit. As Ireland shows, Independence works and Independence from the UK works best of all.
”Now is the time to deliver it - a campaign with all voices serious about independence will achieve”
