Ash Regan to make pitch to women voters at Alba Party event
“Whether it’s demanding justice for WASPI women or opposing Self ID and the Gender Recognition reforms, only Alba Party have been committed to all of these positions that stand up for women.” - Ash Regan MSP
ASH Regan MSP is to set to position Alba Party as the natural party for those that value women’s rights in Scotland.
The Alba Holyrood leader will address a meeting of Alba Party female members tomorrow in which she will set out the progress her party has made in defending women’s rights in the past year.
Ms Regan, who resigned from the Scottish Government over her opposition to the proposed Gender Recognition Reforms - which included the controversial Gender Self ID policy, will state tomorrow that at the upcoming General Election it will be Alba Party who will have “the most comprehensive position when it comes to women’s rights”.
The Alba Holyrood leader will also tell those in attendance that only her party have opposed the Scottish Government’s gender reforms and stood up for women’s rights at Holyrood whilst demanding immediate justice for WASPI women - something both the UK Government and Labour Party have both failed to commit to.
Speaking tomorrow Alba Party Holyrood leader Ash Regan MSP is expected to say:
"Women make up over half of the population in Scotland so our voices matter. When it comes to women’s rights women across Scotland can be assured that Alba Party and I will always fight for you.
"At the upcoming General election the Labour Party will ask women to vote for them but for years when women were under attack for defending the dignity, privacy and safety of women and girls Keir Starmer’s party were nowhere to be seen. When it comes to justice for WASPI women Labour will fail to deliver compensation just like the Tories have failed to do so for over a decade.
"I resigned from my position in Government as I refused to jeopardise the safety of women and girls to protect my own job by backing the SNP and the Greens Gender Self ID fantasy.
"Over the past period it has only been Alba Party that have consistently defended women’s rights. That was one of the major factors in my decision to join the party.
"Whether it’s demanding justice for WASPI women or opposing Self ID and the Gender Recognition reforms, only Alba Party have been committed to all of these positions that stand up for women.”
Alba Party’s women’s event will be held tomorrow in Glasgow and will also be addressed by the ALBA Party Equalities Convener Susan Blackley and and ALBA Party Chair Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh.
