The ALBA Party are hoping to see their first ever candidates elected under the ALBA banner in today’s council elections.

The new Party are fielding 111 candidates across the country and will be looking to register progress in their share of the vote.

Party leader Alex Salmond was at his home village polling station in Strichen Aberdeenshire, bright and early, to support local candidate Charlotte Cross.

He said:

“Today our brave hearts of candidates seek ALBA’s first ever electoral victories and progress in our share of the vote. Our aim for Scotland is independence and control of our natural resources to supply every household in our energy-rich country with clean, green and affordable power”
