Alba Party Call for Increased Levels of Student Support

ALBA Party have called on the Scottish Government to increase the level of support available to Scotland’s student population.

Alba say that Scotland’s Students have been adversely effected by the Cost of Living Crisis and have been excluded from most of the support available.

The pro-independence party want the Scottish Government to review income bands that determine levels of support for students, citing that they have remained “stagnant” for years.

Speaking on behalf of the Youth Wing of Alba, Christina Henry said that “ student loan payments have remained stagnant for too long which has had a detrimental impact on the mental health of Scotland’s students. “

ALBA want the Scottish Government to recognise the “immense value” that Scotland’s students bring to country and have demanded that the Scottish Government implement a review into the income bands that determine how much support individual students receive.

Commenting ALBA Party Youth Member Christina Henry said:

“For too long, political parties in Scotland have courted the votes of young people but have failed to prioritise students by improving the level of support that is required.

“The stagnation of student support is increasingly making life more difficult for students, it is having an impact on their mental health and ultimately is detrimental to their educational experience.

“Investing in Scotland’s students should be an integral part of the Social Contract in Scotland that creates a highly educated population which helps bring better, skilled and well paid jobs to the country, which in turn helps us better invest in our society.

“With Alba Party we know we have a party that listens to the concerns of students, it’s now time for the Scottish Government to act upon them.”
