Alba Party call for Sir Ed Davey to be held accountable in Post Office Scandal
Alba Party Holyrood leader Ash Regan MSP has today lodged a motion calling on Lib Dem Leader Sir Ed Davey to be held to account over the Post Office Horizon Scandal.
Mr Davey was Postal Services Minister in the UK Coalition Conservative Lib Dem Government between 2010 - 2012 and Ministerial decisions he made have been described as “wicked”.
Between 2000 and 2014, more than 700 sub-postmasters and sub-postmistresses across the UK were convicted based on information from the faulty accounting system Horizon
In a motion that has been lodged today, Alba Party Holyrood leader Ash Regan MSP wants to see the Lib Dem leader hauled before the independent inquiry into the Horizon scandal to account for his actions when he was the accountable minister.
The motion lodged by Regan notes that “Sir Ed Davey and other ministers were repeatedly warned about the accounting problems and issues with the (Horizon) software.”
Members of the Scottish Parliament will also be asked to demand that Mr Davey issues an unreserved apology to victims that were wrongly prosecuted.
Commenting Alba Party Holyrood leader Ash Regan said:
“The Post Office Horizon scandal is a grievous miscarriage of justice that has had devastating consequences on Postmasters across the UK and in Scotland.
“To date not a single person has been held to account. Reports that decisions by UK Government Ministers exacerbated the scandal and that concerns raised directly with Sir Ed Davey were dismissed must be investigated. Ministers in the Tory Lib Dem Coalition Government must be held to account for their failings.”
