"Prepare Independence Lifeboat Now" - Salmond tells SNP

“Britain is bust and independence supporting MPs should be preparing the Scottish lifeboat not manning the bilge pumps in the sinking ship Britannia”

This was said by ALBA Party leader, Alex Salmond, speaking to the 35th public meeting of the Wee ALBA Book summer tour in Tranent.

Speaking tonight (Thursday) at The Fraser Centre, 3a Winton Place, Tranent, EH33 1AF

Alex Salmond will state:

“The week of financial turmoil is the death throes of an economy and political system in long term crisis.

“Chancellor Kwarteng’s mad dash for growth is a symptom not just of incompetence and greed but desperation - the last throw of the dice for casino capitalism. Prime Minister Truss is a personification of crisis - no functioning political system could have produced a leader so manifestly unsuited for high office.

“A political danger for SNP politicians is to get sucked in to this very British crisis - just as they were gulled into trying to reverse Brexit. Britain is bust and independence supporting MPs should be preparing the Scottish lifeboat not manning the bilge pumps in the sinking ship Britannia.

“Firstly, ALBA advocates a plan for independence unlocked from the ongoing UK disaster. We need a clean break settlement of no debt and no shared liabilities or assets, rapid adoption of our own currency, public control of Scotland’s vast resources to ensure a living income for every family and every child and an immediate move towards free trade in Europe through membership of EFTA.

“Secondly, ALBA advocates a strategy for securing independence based on political action, popular agitation and international lobbying. Nothing will be conceded by the UK Government unless they are forced to. Our Claim of Right needs be heard in the court of world opinion not in the courts of the British state.”
