I was elected as the MP for East Lothian in the 2019 General Election. It is a privilege to serve the people of East Lothian who are, as I said in my first speech in Westminster, full of “grit, determination and decency.”
Prior to entering the Westminster parliament, I first served a member of the Scottish Parliament, initially for the Lothians Region from 1999 to 2007, for Edinburgh East and Musselburgh from 2007 to 2011, and eventually as MSP for Edinburgh Eastern. I was also appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Justice within the Scottish Government in 2007 and was re-appointed in May 2011, standing down from that role in 2014.
I will be joining the newly formed Alba party to deliver the supermajority for independence through the list vote and which I believe is essential to achieving our nation’s independence.
