Dozens 'face mass eviction from Fife village homes'
Dozens of people face mass eviction within weeks after their new private landlord announced they are selling up, it has been reported.
Families and other tenants living in the Fife villages of West Wemyss and Denbeath have been told they must leave their homes by July - some of them, however, have been given a deadline of March 22, just seven weeks away
Commenting on the situation former ALBA Party candidate Christine Watson said:
“Dreadful news for the communities of the Wemyss and Denbeath as Torah Capital has served eviction notices to 35 families and many elderly tenants.
“Having secure tenancy housing is the foundation of stable communities and is essential to dignity, health and wellbeing.
“Fife already has a housing emergency and is taking steps to increase social housing stock by building more social housing and by acquisition.
“It’s shameful to see some tenants being asked to quit their homes by March and is an appalling action by Torah Capital.
“This is terrible for the individuals affected and will stretch the capacity of a resource already under pressure.
“It is to be hoped that the dialogue between Fife Council and Torah Capital is productive and a resolution can be achieved to allow these families to remain in their homes.
“The Alba party would deliver a housing system that values local roots and family ties. Housing must be returned to local control and management. Housing must be protected from large corporations which put profit before people.”
