Salmond calls for Netanyahu to be arrested if he ever sets foot in Scotland
FORMER First Minister Alex Salmond has called for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be arrested if he ever sets foot in Scotland.
Mr Salmond, now leader of Alba Party, says Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney and Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain should immediately commit to arresting the Israeli leader and to hand him to the Courts if an international arrest warrant is issued.
ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan filed applications on Monday for arrests of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, as well as the commander of Hamas’s military wing and Israel’s defence minister, citing allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity commuted in Israel and the State of Palestine.
Appearing on LBC programme Cross Question with presenter Iain Dale, Mr Salmond said:
"Scotland’s First Minister and the Lord Advocate should commit tonight that, if applications for arrest warrants are granted and Benjamin Netanyahu and others have an absence of the sleight of mind and step foot in Scotland, they should be immediately arrested and sent to the courts.
“Scotland should be one of the first to say that we shall uphold the rule of international law.”
