ALBA Launches Petition Calling for an End to Onshore Wind Development
The pro-independence ALBA Party has today launched an online petition calling for an end to “large-scale onshore wind farm developments.”
Kenny MacAskill launched his party’s campaign to halt further onshore wind projects earlier this month with a press conference in Inverness.
Community councils across Scotland, from the Scottish Borders to the Highlands, have demanded a greater say in the imposition of these developments. MacAskill says his party will lead a campaign to “give these communities a voice.”
Commenting, ALBA Party Leader Kenny MacAskill said:
“Scotland already produces more energy than we require; there is simply no need to further expand onshore wind developments, particularly when local communities don’t want them.
“These developments damage our landscape, don’t bring energy prices down, and in many cases are simply used to make a quick buck by corporate fat cats.
“ALBA has launched this petition today to give these communities a voice and to demonstrate that at least one party in Scotland is standing up for their interests.”
