Reeves Robs Scotland to Pay for Sizewell and Scunthorpe

Reacting to the UK Chancellor’s statement today (Wednesday) Alba Party Leader Kenny MacAskill said:

“The UK Treasury coffers continue to be boosted by Scottish oil and gas revenues while our offshore renewable energy is taken south to power homes and businesses south of the border.

“Reeves is robbing Scotland while investing in Sizewell. The funding for the long overdue Acorn project for carbon capture is dwarfed by the massive £14 billion for nuclear at Sizewell. 

“The Chancellor, by her own admission, has stripped “pride”, "prosperity" and “dignity” from the communities in and around Grangemouth by allowing the refinery to close. Meanwhile, Labour backs Sizewell, saves Scunthorpe and fails Scotland.

“Labour has failed WASPI women yet again, let down pensioners, even with the U turn on winter fuel payments and has betrayed disabled people.

“The message coming from this statement is loud and clear: Scotland is a resource to exploit while our environment is trashed.

"Renewable energy is taken south of the border to power homes and businesses with not a penny of revenue flowing to Scotland.

“Scotland’s massive energy bounty can be the game changer for Scots households providing cheaper, cleaner energy. That is why it is time for Independence.”
