ALBA Commit to Scrapping the Council Tax

The ALBA Party will move to scrap the “unfair, outdated and regressive” council tax if elected to the Scottish Parliament next year.
Speaking to ALBA conference, South Ayrshire Councillor Chris Cullen said:
“Across Scotland, local authorities are being forced to raise Council Tax by record amounts — not because they want to, but because they have no other choice. They’re working under massive financial pressure, and it’s only getting worse.
“The bulk of local government funding comes from the Scottish Government — and more and more of it is ring-fenced. That means councils are told exactly how to spend it, leaving them with less flexibility and less control over decisions that affect their own communities.
“We need a radical shake up of how local government is funded and that starts by scrapping the unfair, outdated and regressive Council Tax”
Commenting ALBA Depute Leader, Neale Hanvey said:
“Everyone knows that the Council Tax needs to be scrapped and replaced with a fairer system, what is lacking is the courage and political will to do anything about it.
“At a time when other parties are intent on punishing hard working families, ALBA are saying loud and clear that we will scrap the unfair council tax.
“At next years Scottish Parliament election, ALBA will present a radical manifesto to the people of Scotland which will deliver the real change that people are crying out for.”
