Scottish Pensioners were conned by ‘spineless’ Labour MPs as former MP calls for an apology for constituents
Former veteran MP, Angus Brendan MacNeil, has called on ‘spineless’ Labour MPs in Scotland to apologise to their constituents for cutting the Winter Fuel Payment.
This comes after Prime Minister Keir Starmer strongly hinted that his Government were going to u-turn on the cut at Prime Ministers Questions on Wednesday.
MacNeil, who represented Na h-Eileanan an lar for 19 years, lost his seat to Labour at last years General Election.
Commenting, Angus Brendan MacNeil said:
“I live in Na h-Eileanan an lar where the effect of the winter fuel payment cut was greater than the loss of money from European funding post Brexit. It is staggering that Labour MPs voted for this.
“Now as the inevitable u-turn is approaching, they should all apologise to their constituents.
“Let’s be clear, they are u-turning not on principle but because they see their poll ratings tanking across Scotland and the UK. With a Scottish Parliament election next year, they are scrambling to save whatever credibility they have left.
“Labour MPs from Scotland used to be known as the ‘feeble fifty’, what is clear is that the current lot are just as spineless as those who came before.
“Scottish pensioners were robbed last winter. There is also a question now arising as result of this U-turn, should the robbed money be returned.
"It is clear that only Independence can save us from a morally bankrupt Westminster system.”
