Swinney urged to reaffirm SNP's anti-nuclear stance

John Swinney has been urged to distance himself from comments made by former Westminster Leader, Ian Blackford.

Former Chair of Uk CND, Marjorie Ellis Thompson has warned that Blackford comments should give Nationalists “cause for concern". He has dramatically suggested that the SNP should ditch policy of unilateral nuclear disarmament, breaking from the SNP's longstanding position.

Former UK CND Chair and current Alba Party National Executive Committee member, Marjorie Ellis Thompson said:

“Recent comments from very senior members of the SNP should give all of us in the National movement cause for concern.

“The most alarming of which comes from their former Westminster Leader. For the SNP to abandon their decades long anti-nuclear stance would be one of the greatest betrayals in modern Scottish Politics.

“John Swinney must swiftly, and firmly, condemn the intervention by Ian Blackford and reaffirm his Government’s anti-nuclear position.

“ALBA Party have set out our clear principle that we are for the immediate removal of Nuclear Weapons from Scotland, something that is only possible with independence, this is why I have found ALBA Party as a natural home for someone that is a live long campaigner for Nuclear Disarmament and a supporter of Scottish independence.”
