Women's Role in Sustainable Development and Power Politics
Tasmina Ahmed -Sheikh addresses Academy for Cultural Diplomacy in Ohrid
“No positive initiative in sustainable development has been possible unless it has placed full emphasis on the role of women as the key facilitators of progress. This essential truth should be applied to international politics.”
This was said by ALBA Party Chair, Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh speaking to the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy Forum in Ohrid, North Macedonia.
Ms Ahmed-Sheikh said;
“We live in a world where there is a full scale conflict on the European continent, where the Middle East is engulfed in flames and fire and where the very future of the planet is threatened by the inability to collectively act fast enough to respond to the climate emergency
“And yet, in recent times, every single successful initiative in international development has placed the role of women at the centre of progress.
“The lesson from developmental economics to international power politics is very clear.
“No woman wants to send her son or daughter to war, no woman wants her child to be bombed and every woman wants her children to inherit a planet which is safe and stable.
“This is the time to recognise that this same essential truth applies in world affairs.
“The politics of macho aggression and ruthless competition should be replaced by the priorities of home and hearth and sustainable development.
“The greater the participation of women in global politics and economics then the greater the chance of progress, peace and stability for all humankind.”
