Working Together For Independence

The Alba Party believes that the need for Scottish independence is great and should be pursued with urgency and determination. Alba has, from its inception, been committed to working with others to achieve independence through cross-party and non-party initiatives such as All Under One Banner marches and Hope over Fear rallies.

In advance of the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections, Alba has reached out to other pro-independence parties urging them to unite the independence movement by adopting the independence strategy bequeathed to us by our founder and former leader, and former First Minister of Scotland, The Rt Hon Alex Salmond.

That strategy would see each pro-independence party commit in their election manifesto that a majority of votes cast for pro-independence parties on the list should constitute the mandate for independence. This strategy puts country before party, can unite the independence movement, and is both credible, popular, and achievable.

Alba is mandated by our members to stand candidates in every region of Scotland for the 2026 election. In doing so, we will maintain the highest standards of candidate selection and accountability, ensuring that all those representing the party meet the rigorous vetting and approval process set by our members. While mindful of the need to avoid splitting the independence vote, Alba will not stand in constituencies and will instead work constructively with others - including the many SNP members who share our commitment to, and urgency for independence - to maximise the pro-independence representation in the next Scottish Parliament.

We will continue to engage with all political parties and organisations who support Scottish independence ahead of the 2026 Scottish Election to advance this strategy and unite the movement to “Max the Yes.”
