Moving Scotland Forward
The status of a successful independent country is not measured by its GDP but by the quality of life enjoyed by every one of its citizens.
Transportation infrastructure plays a crucial role in shaping the quality of life in any country. However, the journey to a better transportation system and to independence must start now.
We should launch a strong campaign to push the Scottish Government and councils to invest in better transportation infrastructure.
The strategy should include a mix of public engagement, direct action, political pressure, and media outreach.
The ALBA Party recognises the urgent need for:
A. Dualling of the A9 and A96 as well as upgrading of the A82 and A87 trunk roads in the interest of safety and to enable the development of the Highlands.
B. Investment in new rail links and upgrading of rolling stock.
C. Investment in new ferries and maintenance facilities to improve connectivity throughout the Highlands and Islands and to create direct links to Europe.
D. Investment in a network of undersea road tunnels to improve connectivity between islands and with the mainland, facilitating repopulation and redevelopment of communities.
