Highly Protected Marina Areas (HPMA)

The ALBA Party have been steadfast in our opposition to the Scottish Government’s proposal to introduce Highly Protected Marine Areas (HPMA). We believe that they are poorly researched, unsoundly based and risk the livelihood of thousands of families in fragile coastal communities.

The ALBA Party believes that the Scottish Government were wrong in promoting a policy based on an overriding 10 per cent exclusion target contained in a shabby political deal between the SNP and the Green Party.

The policy must be immediately withdrawn and replaced by a proper consideration of the overall impact on our inshore and offshore waters of economic activity.

The ALBA Party outlined out concerns in the Public Consultation, which can be viewed here
