Investing in the Future
The ALBA Party believes education is a public good, not a commodity. Scotland’s education system is under increasing pressure from market-driven models that prioritise profit over access, equity, and quality. Universities are becoming overly reliant on international fees, while colleges and apprenticeships remain undervalued and underfunded — despite their essential role in building a balanced economy and skilled workforce.
ALBA reaffirms its commitment to:
- Defending free, accessible education for all, regardless of background or pathway.
- Promoting parity of esteem and funding between academic and vocational routes.
- Supporting a lifelong learning system that is inclusive and fully resourced.
To achieve this, ALBA calls on the Scottish Government to:
- Reject market-based funding models for students.
- Increase investment in colleges and apprenticeships, ensuring they are valued equally alongside universities.
- Develop a national education strategy that secures sustainable funding and recognises the value of every learning pathway.
Education must serve the people of Scotland — not market interests. ALBA will work to ensure every learner has the opportunity to thrive.
