Where We Stand

Building a Better Future

The ALBA Party is deeply concerned by the ongoing erosion of Scotland’s industrial base — symbolised by the crisis at Ferguson Marine, the decline of shipbuilding, and the reliance on overseas suppliers for offshore wind components. The loss of Grangemouth refinery and the Scottish Government’s retreat from supporting oil and gas threaten both energy security and skilled employment.

Brexit and restrictive immigration policies under Westminster have further damaged Scotland’s economy, undermining agriculture, fisheries, hospitality, tourism, and private care, while worsening labour shortages. The cumulative result is weakened industry, lost opportunities, and diminished confidence in Scotland’s economic future.

ALBA believes Scotland has the resources, skills, and innovation to thrive — but only with a coherent and ambitious economic strategy that prioritises growth, re-industrialisation, and energy resilience. Sustainable growth is essential: it boosts tax revenues, funds infrastructure and public services, and restores dignity and opportunity to working people.

To deliver this, ALBA calls for the creation of a Working Group on Economic Policy to engage with stakeholders across all sectors and produce a strategic roadmap to:

- Rebuild Scotland’s manufacturing and industrial base.

- Restore energy security and skilled employment.

- Support traditional industries damaged by Brexit and poor policy.

- Drive a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable economy worthy of Scotland’s potential.

Scotland must re-industrialise to secure its future prosperity — ALBA will lead the way.
